This summer, I decided that I wanted to do more crafts and activities with my littles. Pinterest has been very helpful with fun crafts and projects for the kids to do while we are at home or outdoors exploring. I also found that the front section (the dollar section) at Target has tons of great work books and educational games for children right now. I follow a Montessori style learning when it comes to the children. Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori, children make creative choices in their learning, while I offer age-appropriate activities to guide the process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential. My children LOVE to learn. They cook with me, have age appropriate chores like putting up the dishes or wiping down the table after we eat a meal. I have found that this style learning plus the educational aids I have found at Target and Amazon have helped their brains stay active and in a fun mentality.
Everyday, I make sure to get one-on-one time with each of my children. We do different activities, games or reading their favorite books. I always let them decide which they want to do and then we sit down at our kitchen table to do “our work” as they call it. Ya’ll, when we first moved to this home, we had a hand me down table that barely made the trip from our previous house. We kept using gorilla glue to keep it together and because I am obsessed with finding great deals, I searched for months for a pedestal table. I finally found this one (get this, for $35!) on the Facebook marketplace. I have plans to sand it down and paint it but I honestly just haven’t had the time. The metal chairs I purchased from Target during one of their home sales. I LOVE THEM and they are so easy to wipe down after we eat or they play with Play dough or what not.
The last piece of the puzzle for my dining room was finding a rug that would be functional for that area. I knew that I wanted a jute rug but I wanted one that wasn’t really scratchy and that I could vacuum easily if I needed too. Plush Rugs caught my eye on Instagram and once I started browsing I found the PERFECT rug for my space. This jute rug comes in different colors and sizes. The 8’x10′ gives us just enough space to slide out our chairs and compliments my table. I am so pumped that I found it because it really makes a dramatic difference in my dining area. We spend a lot of time at our table now because I am focusing on their education and helping them learn every single day. Our dining area has become one of my favorite spaces because of this! For anyone that has searched for the perfect JUTE rug, you’ve got to check out the one that I found, on the Plush Rugs website, because it is amazing!
