Mama’s Magic Coffee

Good mornin’, good mornin’ y’all! I don’t know about you but I have to start my day with a big ole cup of coffee. I’ve never been a coffee drinker but after I had Scarlet Reese something in my body just needed the perk. I’m breastfeeding so I just drink a cup a day but I savor that cup SO much y’all! I tried cold brew coffee and that’s the type that I really enjoy. The flavor to me is so much better than regular coffee and the nutritional benefits would have swayed me if the flavor didn’t. Cold-brewing is a style of coffee where the grounds soak on the countertop for 12-24 hours, and then creates a coffee concentrate that you mix. Cold brew is up to 60% less acidic than typical, hot-brewed coffee, and it keeps fresh in the refrigerator for up to two weeks! I use Califia Farms almond and coconut milk so when I saw their cold brew at the grocery store, I decided to give it a try. I love the smooth flavor and their mocha has become a recent favorite of mine.

I like to think of my morning coffee as my magic potion and I add a lot of supplements to it to benefit my body. I often get asked about them and I have talked about them on Snapchat and Instagram stories before but I wanted to give y’all a solid place to reference if you want to try my cocktail.

The first thing that I add to my coffee is marine collagen or collagen peptides from Vital Proteins. I like to switch back and forth between the two so I can get all the nutritional benefits of them. You can read all about collagen peptides here. Marine collagen is a fibrous protein taken from the scales and skin of saltwater fish. It helps reduce sun damage and gives you a clearer smooth complexion. Marine collagen improves skin elasticity by increasing the density of fibroblasts which are the cells that rebuild connective tissues. The collagen is flavorless and dissolves in my coffee.

The next MUST that I put in my coffee is Vanilla Bean ghee by Fourth and Heart. I use the Fourth and Heart products daily and I haven’t bought “stick” butter in months! Ghee is a clarified butter so it has health benefits when ingested on a regular basis. Energy is coming from fat, it does this without giving you rebound hypoglycemia so if you can’t eat a big breakfast, this will help hold you over. (If you blend this in your coffee it will make it extra creamy)

The next ingredient that I add is Cordyceps mushroom powder from Sun Potion. This is a true “superfood” that’s known for its ability to fight free radicals, infections and inflammation. Cordyceps is also known for supplying energy and helping reduce the signs of aging. All around, it’s just a great mushroom and I love it’s value to my daily lifestyle.

The last part of my concoction is from Bulletproof. I use a teaspoon of ONE of these in my cup every day (do NOT add to much or you will regret it.) I just go back and forth between the two for each of their benefits. Use the Brain Octane Oil if you want the maximum cognitive benefit, a fast rise in energy and the quickest digestion. Use XCT Oil if you are looking for an affordable MCT oil that helps your metabolism to burn fat, but has a slower and smaller cognitive effect and a slower rise in energy.

That’s all folks! I normally blend it all together or add it all to a shaker bottle and shake until frothy. I like to drink it out of my mugs or mason jars. Lately my Fin First mugs have been my go-to. These are so stinking cute and the perfect gift for the coffee, tea or bone broth drinker in your life!
