Why You Need A Naturepedic Mattress

I am SO pumped about this feature because it’s a biggie. The need for an organic mattress never occurred to me until I started looking into options for the kids. To be honest, Derrek and I were given a mattress as a wedding gift from his parents so we didn’t get to pick that out. I didn’t care about any feature for a mattress other than was it soft enough for me. I cannot stand a hard mattress. Derrek on the other hand loves a hard mattress. The first mattresses that we switched out were the ones in our bedroom because that’s the room that we all slept in. You can read more about that here.
On our journey to a healthier lifestyle, we decided we wanted to use organic mattresses in our home. The reason why this is because manufacturers are dousing mattresses with highly toxic flame-retardant chemicals like polybrominated diphenyl ether, better known as PBDE, which do NOT have to be disclosed in any way.
PBDEs, which have been banned in Canada, Europe, and several states, build up in your body over time, and what you absorb or inhale does not go away. This is concerning not only because of the health problems PBDE is associated with (brain and reproductive damage, decreased sperm quality, thyroid problems and even cancer at high levels), but also because of how pervasive these chemicals have become.
Having this information, let us with no choice but to do better! After researching different organic mattress companies, we decided to go with Naturepedic. They handcraft organic mattresses for the entire family! I love this quote from their website “We believe that natural materials are at the core of superior comfort and support. Mother Nature provides us with the best unrivaled materials that are actually in harmony with our bodies. Would you rather sleep on a pile of chemicals (literally) or be surrounded by the finest organic materials Mother Nature has to offer? Would your immune system rather be fighting foreign chemicals while you sleep or healing itself instead?” this really resonated with us and was the ultimate reason why we chose to use their products in our home. Their mattresses are made with organic cotton, organic wool, organic latex and organic cotton incased coils.
The switch didn’t occur over night, we have replaced mattresses as we can and have two more bedrooms to switch out mattresses for. Until then, we are using organic mattress toppers. In Harper and Scarlet Reese’s bedroom, we had a full size bed on an old iron frame that was a hand me down. The girls never wanted to sleep in it because it was so high up and I had to figure out a solution. I want them to love their room and have their own space when they sleep at night. As they have grown, our family bed just cannot house all the kiddos in our family. I searched for a white trundle bed and found this one from Walmart.com surprisingly. I knew it was a twin trundle bed and that’s when we picked out these mattresses for the girls. They are SO soft and comfy, sometimes I go in their room to take a nap when I can.
I bribed the girls with new bedding so that they would sleep in their room and so far it’s worked. Sometimes, they still come and climb into my bed but for the most part they truly love their room and their new beds. Naturepedic is a great investment for your family and your health. I know that organic mattresses cost more but so do designer handbags or name brand shoes. We save for what we think is important and something that we come into contact with every day should be just that.
