Happy Monday ya’ll! I can’t believe another weekend has flown by, I hope you soaked it all up and it helped prepare you for the busy day ahead. As you know, in 2019 one of the things that I am focusing on with my content is a weekly schedule. Every Monday will showcase something about makeup. I love that this schedule is now set in place because it gives each of you something to look forward to no matter what draws you to my blog. This week, I’m sharing what I’ve learned about mainstream mascara brands and giving you tips on how to use my favorites.
For years, I couldn’t wear mascara because it would cause my eyes to pour water. I never understood why they would do that and I just figured it was something I was allergic too. Now, I know that it was actually my eyes screaming “Take this toxic sludge off, please!” Most mascaras contain Never List ingredients like parabens, aluminum powder, and ethanolamines, specifically triethanolamine (TEA).
These ingredients are harmful to human health for several reasons. Parabens have been shown to mimic and potentially disrupt estrogen activity in the body. Aluminum powder is a neurotoxin used as a colorant, it is rated as a high concern by the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG’s) Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. TEA is a pH adjuster linked to allergies, skin toxicity, hormone disruption, and inhibited fetal brain development. Both of Beautycounter’s Lengthening and Volumizing Mascara are free of all of these harmful ingredients and the synthetic waxes in mainstream mascara, like paraffin, are replaced with plant-derived waxes. Additionally, most volumizing mascaras contain synthetic fibers that can irritate eyes while the Beautycounter Volumizing Mascara uses only natural fibers.
Lengthening Mascara – A precision brush defines and extends every lash for a fresh, daytime look. 97% of testers saw instant length and definition.
Volumizing Mascara – An hourglass brush curls, separates, and plumps for a high-drama gaze. Clinically proven to increase lash volume by 385%.**Clinical results based on two coats
Each formula is smudge-proof and flake-proof, yet you can still remove them in the blink of an eye. Plus, both contain nourishing botanical ingredients—like organic bataua oil and floral waxes—and are free from the PEGs found in other mascaras. It is recommended to apply the Lengthening Mascara first since the precision brush will allow you to really get into the base of the lashes to create definition and length. Then apply Volumizing Mascara to build volume, curl and lift lashes. These mascaras are great worn separately or layered together for a falsies look, and will last you 3 months before you need to reorder. I love putting them in my bra (just being real) while I get ready and let the formulas warm up so they apply like butter. I like to curl my lashes before I apply the mascara by wiggling the wand from the root to the tip of the lash. Let that coat dry and curl again for mega volume!
