If you follow natural minded practitioners or nutritionists, you’ve probably heard about CBD (Cannabidiol) oil. A few years ago this was not the case as this has quickly become a health trend, and it’s one that I stand behind. If you’ve been curious about it, you’re in the right place! I’m going to break down what all the hype is about. I know that the use of medical marijuana is a controversial topic but I am hoping that doesn’t deter you from learning more about CBD. CBD is a compound that’s extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD oil does contain THC, however most CBD products claim to have under 0.3% THC, and it is not psychoactive.

There are over 60 compounds found in cannabis that belong to a class of ingredients called cannabinoids, and CBD is one of those known compounds that has been proven to treat several diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular health. Until recently, the only compound that was receiving any attention was THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) because it’s the ingredient in cannabis that produces mind-altering effects in users. However, it is known now that CBD is also present in high concentrations — and the medical world is learning that the CBD compound’s medical benefits continues to grow.

So what exactly is CBD? It is the most prevalent non-psychoactive component of Cannabis sativa. In a 2013 study of CBD published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, the benefits of CBD included results as an anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, antiemetic, anxiolytic and antipsychotic agent. It can also perform as a possible medicine for the treatment of neuroinflammation, epilepsy, oxidative injury, vomiting and nausea, anxiety and schizophrenia.

While I was pregnant with Mercy, my anxiety was at an all time high and I felt like I would never get back to normal. My midwife suggested looking into CBD oil and so I decided to give it a try. I have been using it with incredible, continuous results. In addition to helping with my anxiety, it has several additional health benefits that I have noticed an improvement in like pain, inflammation and nausea.

The brand that I’ve decided on using after trying a few different ones is called Life Leaf Medical CBD. This brand is nature nurtured from soil to oil in South Carolina. I love supporting local so it was really important for me to partner up with my friend Megan and her husband for their local CBD business. Megan and I are long time friends and have talked in great depth about their business is founded off of using organic farming practices! This was also an important aspect to support when it came to picking a CBD company to use.

Here are just a few questions y’all had about CBD when I first posted about using it:

Q: Is it safe to use while breastfeeding?
A: YES. It is safe to use while breastfeeding. However, no clinical trials have been completed so use at your own discretion.

Q:How much do I know to use?
A: A good starting dose is 1mg per 10 pounds of body weight. The current research on CBD is done using 100 mg per day (3000mg) so that is a good one for someone seeking immediate relief.

Q: Will this get you high?
A: It won’t get you high. You will feel relaxed almost as if you are sitting on a tropical beach watching a sunset.

Q: What is the difference in isolate, broad spectrum and full spectrum?
A: Broad spectrum means some of the components of the hemp plant were removed from the oil. Most commonly THC is removed to be complaint with strict local laws. Full spectrum has all the components of the hemp plant. CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC, THC, TERPENES, FLAVONOIDS, all of these have positive effects in your body.

Q: How long does it take to see a difference?
A: You will notice a difference in the first time you take it however the longer you take it, the effects will be more noticeable. Change doses in week long increments and take it consistently.
