There’s No Place Like Home For the Holidays
How on Earth is it almost the end of November? Y’all, this month has flown by faster than any other in 2017, in my opinion. I feel like we haven’t had the chance to soak up fall like we wanted and now it’s almost winter! It’s hard to contain my excitement because in a few days, I’ll be cooking my own Thanksgiving. I’ve never done this and this will be the first time that it’s just Derrek, myself and the kids and we are really looking forward to it. We always travel to several different Thanksgiving’s on that day and although we enjoy seeing family, we’re so worn out from running around.
Just doing our own thing for a holiday seems like it will be really relaxing! I’ll def update ya’ll afterwards. OH and I did decide on a menu, we are having fried turkey (that we’re buying because I don’t want to take on that responsibility!), mac and cheese, rice, gravy, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, cranberry relish (I’ll link the recipe here), green bean casserole, corn on the cob and cheesy garlic bread. For dessert, pumpkin, pecan and apple pies, hahahaha. I thought ya’ll would get a kick out of that part. Leftovers for days!
We picked out our Christmas tree last weekend at the local market in our town. Every Christmas that Derrek and I have had together, we get a live Christmas tree. There’s just NOTHING like a big real tree that smells like pine needles. I have not decorated it yet but it is very beautiful in my living room. I have a feeling I’ll deck out my house in Christmas décor this upcoming weekend but until then, my kitchen and dining room have pumpkins everywhere and my living room is pure Christmas. It’s an oxymoron of holiday décor right now but it does feel extremely festive.
What are ya’ll doing to celebrate on Thanksgiving? Do you do anything special like go to the movies, watch football with family, or head out to shop? We are thinking about partaking in Black Friday shopping and taking the kids to see a movie Friday. We’ve never made it a point to do either of those so I would love your imput as well.
