My Non-Toxic Lipstick Recs
One of the biggest reasons that I am so passionate about clean beauty and skincare is because of the lack of regulation in the beauty industry.
As a consumer, I was under the impression that if it was available to purchase in a store, that the products on the shelves were safe for my use but unfortunately that’s not the case.
The last major federal law that regulates the beauty industry was passed in 1938 by President Rosevelt. The same beauty industry has grown to $511 billion dollars! That’s a very large market with many ingredients that have not even been tested for human safety.
With the lack of regulation, brands are able to do mostly whatever they want with their ingredients and market their products as “natural,” “clean” and “organic” without actually being any of those things. It has become so common, that there is a term for it. “Greenwashing” is when a company says they are clean but actually are not.
This is especially the case with lipsticks. With lip products, it’s important to remember that we actually consume most of what we apply. Using safe and clean lip products is super important. I’ve learned that routine lipstick wearers can consume up to four pounds of lipstick in their lifetime! That’s crazy when you really think about it!
It’s taken me years to find products in the clean beauty industry that are actually high performing and safe. I am very picky about my products and I’m very happy with a few brands. The brands that I love have ingredients are all vetted and their performance is unbelievable.
Check out a few of my favorite lip sticks that I’m loving right now:
- Ogee Full Bloom Sculpted Lipstick in Juliette – use code: AMANDA for 15% off
- Ilia Beauty Color Block Lipstick in Amberlight
- Sheer Genius Conditioning Lipstick in Lily – use code: CLEANFORALL30 for 30% off
Would you consider switching to safer lipsticks? It could majorly reduce your toxic load and you can find products that you love.
