Back Porch Update
Well, I know this blog has been a LONG time coming! Shew, we have so many updates happening that I’ve wanted to wait until it’s all completed before I show y’all but I realize that many of you can relate to not being able to “do it all” at one time. This is going to be a continuous project but we are very excited about the progress we’ve made and we look forward to making changes along the way and not letting it overwhelm us mentally or financially.
We decided to makeover the back porch and make it our little safe haven then focus on our backyard since that’s the biggest project. We are getting an unground pool put in and it’s put all my ideas and projects on hold for that part of our yard because I don’t want to buy a new fence or pour concrete and it end up having to be pulled up because they need to put the pool in and have to move something. So for now, I am focusing on what I can and that’s our back porch!
I found a lot of the pieces for our porch at Walmart. I’ve shopped around and really taken my time finding the exact pieces that I wanted instead of just looking for a good “deal.” I’ve done this in the past and I ended up hating everything. I wanted to get neutral pieces that I could mix up with a rug or new pillows, and so far we love it all. We also have a lot of people in our house so having enough seating is key.
We started with this gorgeous sectional (grey seats) with a dining table and two seats so that we can lounge or eat outside. Then I found a huge deal on this black and white outdoor rug and I couldn’t pass it up. It’s so gorgeous, soft, and it matches perfectly. Also, it doesn’t shed which can be a huge pain the butt. I accented the sectional with this coral pillow and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to snag this patio egg chair. We hung these curtains using these cute clips by following this tutorial, which was super easy. What was not so easy though, was figuring out a way to hang these stunning lights. They gave us a run for our money, ha!
I think that when you’re filling space in a room if it’s outside or inside you need live plants! It really does make the room feel more cozy and it gives a perfect pop of neutral green in all the right areas. I buy most of my plants from Walmart, surprisingly (including my fig leaf fiddle tree) because they have the best deals and variety. Sometimes I do go to a local greenhouse but for the most part, Walmart meets my needs.
Like I said before it’s a work-in-progress so I will continue to keep y’all updated as we add more things. The next steps are to buy a new screen door, replace the few parts of the screens that have holes in them and hang a tv so Derrek and I can go hang out and binge Netflix after the kids go to bed! I hope y’all enjoyed the sneak peek and let me know if you get any of these pieces and show me how you styled them!
