My Workout Routine

Living in the country has its perks and not living close to a gym isn’t one of them. I always say that if I could have a gym, coffee shop and a Target it would be perfect out here. Until all of that happens, I have to fend for myself in the exercise department.

I’ve never really been a “weights” type of workout person. I love to go for a brisk walk, jog and do squats until my legs feel like jello. Most mornings when the kids and I wake up, we do go for a walk and feed the animals at the farm down the road. On the way home, I always end up pushing the stroller with Harper and a Scarlet Reese while Nolan and I have a race where we run and see who can get to our mailbox first.

I do want to include that before I workout I always drink a pre-workout from Rootz Nutrition. It’s a raspberry-lemonade flavor and it’s delicious. It’s made from all real superfoods, whole foods and paleo. I do one scoop but you can do more depending on your liking. It really gets me pumped up and motivated to workout. You can use code: littlesouthernwife for 10% off your order.

Other than going for walks with the kids in the morning I love to do HIIT workouts. High-intensity interval training is a type of exercise that involves repeated short bouts of high-intensity, or “burst” exercises, followed by brief recovery periods. I don’t have hours to spend getting a workout in because the kids are around me 24/7. But, I can preoccupy them for 15-30 minutes so I really have come to enjoy these HIIT workouts. Now, I’m not saying that they aren’t hard, I am normally sweating like a crazy lady at the end but it gets the job done and I can do them anywhere.

I often workout inside but when the weather is nice, I love going in our backyard and using the outdoors to help. I do pull-ups on the trees and take my resistance bands and let them push me to go harder with my workout. These bands are from Fit Simplify. And come in different levels so you can choose how hard you go when you workout. Derrek even likes to use these! We’ve really enjoyed using these because it’s not a huge workout machine taking up space in our house and you can take them anywhere.

My main goal of working out is to get a workout in of some sort every single day. Mine vary from day to day but focusing on having movement is important and a great way to get your heart rate up and sweat on! We are headed to the beach for a trip soon and I am pumped to join in on yoga classes for a few days. What’s your favorite workout? I would love to know!
