How I Work From Home

Wow, this week is truly flying by! I know that for any mom out there, you are feeling the same way. Now that the kids are in school, I am loving the “freedom” I feel during the day. I don’t even count Mercy into this equation because she is the easiest little baby to be with. I work from home as a Beautycounter consultant and I make my own hours. I always make sure to get my work done in the morning but if for some reason it doesn’t happen I go into another room for an hour or so when Derrek is home. I have worked several jobs since I was 15 and this is hands down the best because of the ability to create my own schedule all that I have been able to accomplish with hard work and dedication. I get asked SO many questions about how I work from home and I am SO excited to share more with ya’ll.

Regardless if you work for Beautycounter or not, if you work from home it’s VERY important to create a schedule for yourself. I find that if I do not create a schedule for my week then I don’t accomplish 1/3 of the things on my “to do” list. On Sundays, I write out my schedule in my planner and I add to it as the week goes on. I always suggest looking at the next day at night before you go to sleep so you can visualize what your day is going to look like.

After I drop the kids off at school or I am in the car I always do Voxers with my team. Voxer is a free app like a walkie talkie that you can check whenever it’s convenient for you and replay as many times as you like. This is how I communicate with my team across the US! We talk pretty much every day and it’s so much more helpful than a text or a phone call. I normally check Voxer morning, noon and night and tell my team if it’s time sensitive to write it out so I see it faster. With a team of 300 women, I need to be able to help them in the most effective way and this has proven to be it! In addition to checking voxers in the car, I try and schedule my phone calls for times I know I will be in the car as well so I can knock them out. I normally have at least one phone call per day.

Once I am back at home, I look at my “to do” list. I used to make very long “to do” lists of ALL the things I needed to do but after getting overwhelmed time and time again, I realized I have to make my lists more achievable. Four tasks on my list per day is what I can accomplish and feel like I had a productive day. I’ll share more about that below. I also do light housework while I am home… empty/reload the dishwasher, clean up after the kids, do a load of laundry or two and water my plants. I will share that I do have house cleaners that come once a week to do my deep cleaning and I have a robot vacuum I run every morning as well. Kids leave crumbs everywhere and I don’t love ants or vacuuming so it kills two birds with one stone. If hiring housecleaners isn’t something you can do, I understand! Before I hired them I cleaned our home with a daily house schedule I found off of Pinterest. I strongly suggest doing that. Since my work requires so much of my time now, I have delegated things that I can to make life easier.

When I am home with Mercy and I need to get anything accomplished, I let her do one of three things. Lay on her play mat, swing herself to sleep in her swing or I baby wear her. I’ve recently shared how much I LOVE baby wearing so, if you want to read it then click here. A Solly Wrap is a lifesaver in my daily life. She is the best baby ever and just hangs out with me like my best friend. I really don’t have any issues working from home with her. She and I are alone until we pick the other kids up from school so I pretty much work until they get into my car and I give them my full attention. It’s important for me to get all of my work done before I get them so I can invest into them and they know that they have me 100%. We go home, do home work and often play Uno or color because it’s something we all love to do together. Then they get some “free time” to play on their tablets or watch a movie before we eat supper. After supper they take a bath, get their pjs on, brush their teeth and we read books for 30 minutes before they go to sleep.

Alright, here is a break down of my schedule. Sometimes I shift these things around but for the most part you can find me doing these at any given time during the month. I hope it helps you and you become more productive with your time. I know that I have!
