Why Postpartum Recovery Needs More Than a 6-Week Checkup

When I had my first baby, I remember counting down to my 6-week postpartum appointment like it was some magical finish line.
I thought: Once I get cleared, everything will feel normal again.

But when that quick 10-minute checkup ended with a “You’re good, see you next year,” I walked to my car holding back tears.
I didn’t feel “good.” I didn’t feel “cleared.”
I felt exhausted, overwhelmed, and completely unprepared for what real postpartum healing actually looked like.

The truth is, postpartum recovery doesn’t fit neatly into a 6-week box — and if you’re feeling that too, you’re not broken.
You’re normal.
And you deserve more.

So What Does Real Healing Look Like?

It looks like:

✨ Supporting your adrenals + minerals daily
✨ Eating nourishing meals (not skipping and surviving on cold coffee)
✨ Moving gently and gradually rebuilding strength
✨ Prioritizing real sleep when possible
✨ Letting go of pressure to “bounce back” and focusing on balance instead
✨ Trusting that the Lord created your body to heal — and you don’t have to force it

The 6-Week Checkup Isn’t Enough Because:

1. Physical Healing Takes Longer Than 6 Weeks

Your uterus may shrink back in size, but:

  • Hormones are still regulating
  • Pelvic floor muscles may still be weakened
  • Core muscles need gentle, guided rebuilding
  • Nutrient stores are still depleted (especially if breastfeeding)

According to ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists), postpartum care should be an ongoing process, not a single visit.
Yet most women are sent home with zero real healing plan.

2. Mental Health Needs Deeper Support

1 in 7 women experience postpartum depression.
But anxiety, rage, and depletion often fly under the radar because they’re not asked about — and moms often feel guilty for even bringing them up.

Mental health doesn’t magically resolve by week 6.
In fact, for many women, the hardest emotional shifts start after that 6-week mark.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone.
(If you need someone to walk beside you, I also offer Postpartum Wellness Coaching.)

3. True Postpartum Recovery Requires Rebuilding, Not Just Rest

Postpartum isn’t just about “bouncing back” — it’s about restoring your body at a cellular level.

That means:

  • Prioritizing nutrient-dense meals (you can check out more about postpartum nutrition here)
  • Supporting adrenal and thyroid health
  • Gentle movement to rebuild strength
  • Creating a healing home environment (think clean air, clean water, low-tox living)

Some of my favorite tools that supported my own healing:

Your body is doing miraculous work.
It deserves better tools, better care, and better support.
