Happy Wednesday friends! I am over here in actual pain because these photos are making me miss the warm weather that blew through last weekend. I honestly think that South Carolina is trying to experience 18 different seasons all in one week! It’s crazy! Last week it was in the 70s and today it’s 32 and it snowed. YES it did snow here! How wild. I don’t live in South Carolina because I like cold weather, bring on all the sunshine and beach days!
When I became a teenager, I started tanning hardcore. It has wreaked havoc on my skin and I’m currently trying to make the wrinkles, sunspots and discoloration go away! For this reason, I am super careful about covering up when I’m in the sun, you can read more about that here. And I also started looking into safer sunless tanning options for myself. I never realized how toxic sunless tanner was and I used to spread Sally Hansen all over myself in college.
Popular self tanner formulas are known to contain a toxic soup of potentially harmful chemicals added to stabilize or preserve for a longer shelf life. Many products contain parabens, a type of synthetic preservative linked to breast cancer, and oxybenzone, a chemical that messes with our hormones and may actually increase our risk of skin cancer. Some self tanner formulations even contain ingredients known to release formaldehyde as they break down, such as diazolidinyl urea and DMDM hydantoin.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of non toxic sunless tanners on the market and the ones that are available are pretty pricey. I was stocking up on my Grove supplies when I happened to spot a sunless tanner on their website. I quickly put it into my cart and pressed “ship now.” When my package came, I took everything out and used it right away.. all but the sunless tanner. I kept giving myself excuses for not using it “I don’t want it on the sheets.” “I don’t want to smell” “I don’t want the baby to have tanner on her face from my boobs.” “I don’t want to look orange.” Until finally I said, screw it, let’s do this thing! And I tried it.
I have to say I love the color! The application was super easy and even (I used the applicator mitt) and overnight I turned into an island goddess. It didn’t smell horrible, I didn’t get it all over my white sheets or the baby. I felt so golden that I had to break out a dress and open toe heels. This dress is from last season but it’s so versatile that I wear it year round! I love it. I paired it with my favorite new leopard heels from Vici and I feel like it completely pulled it all together.
Shop Grove for my sunless tanner and make sure to use this link for $10 off your purchase! Let me know how you like it and make sure to apply with the applicator mitt for even coverage.
