Hey y’all! I am so excited to share this because I am actually in the middle of a great work day. It’s the first day that all my kids are back in their summer camp routine and man, it feels fabulous! I love having them with me 24/7 but lets be real, they get bored easily and sometimes mama needs a break! Y’all ask “how I do it all” and the answer is that I don’t. Well I do, but on different days, never in the same day! ha! It’s impossible to do everything and keep everyone happy all at once and I’ve learned that life is more about balance than perfection and my kids my happiness is worth more than anything.
Now that school is out, we are busier than ever. It could be that cabin fever quickly grabs a hold of us or it could be that there are just so many options to do with all of our free time. Either way, I am committed to a *flexible* summer schedule and it helps us all around. The older kids have chore charts that they focus on daily. It’s simple things like “brush your teeth, read a book, go for a walk, unload the dishwasher” and then at the end of the week they earn their allowance of $5. It’s helped them not get “bored” so easily at home and keeps me from repeating myself over and over. It’s also helps them learn the value of responsibility, self motivation, money and using what they have verses what I have. All around, their chore chart is extremely helpful in our house and they also have one for during the school year which has different daily tasks.
They are with me four days of the week 24/7 and on those days we do our chores then we either go to the pool, park, library or have a play date with friends. I always make sure we do SOMETHING outside of the house so they get their energy out and then I also try to go to the gym so they go hang out with the kids that are there while I work out. When we are at home we do a bible study, youtube kids yoga (Cosmic kids yoga) and we always cook something together. I have learned that my children want to be included in what I’m doing but when they get bored and ask me to play, I try my best to remember it’s important to take at least 5 minutes to give them my undivided attention. They will appreciate it so much and it also helps you focus on them! They are only little once y’all!
The other days of the week, they go to a local church for a summer camp for 3 hours a day. During those three hours, they learn about Jesus, do crafts, play with friends and go to music class. They LOVE it and it really does fill their hearts and get them out of the house (main goal). I do work from home so during those hours I am hyper focused on my work and it really helps me get SO much accomplished. My goal is to have all my important “must do” tasks done by the time they get home so that when they come home I can fix them lunch and we can either go to the pool or do activities at home depending on the weather.
Their bed time is something that I want to get better at! Lately, they are going to bed between 8-9pm. I think they stay up so late because I let them sleep in late every morning but I am really committed to getting them to sleep earlier so Derrek and I can have more one on one time at the end of the day. Do you have any tips or tricks for a smooth bed time routine?
I would love to hear more about your summer schedules and activities! I am always open to learning more and hearing about new ways focus on the kids so they feel appreciated and loved on.
