My Makeup and Skincare Routine

I sit here, at my computer, reminiscing about the times in college that I would sit in front of my bathroom mirror and spending HOURS upon hours doing my hair and makeup. But let me just get real, those days are LONG gone! Not only is my skin starting to show a little age and sun damage from baking outside every summer but my dark circles match my coffee. I get asked a lot about my routine and the truth is that I like to use a small amount of products that make a big impact. When I transitioned to a non toxic lifestyle, I was so overwhelmed with the different “organic” and “natural” choices and after trying different brands, I never found one that I LOVED. Along my path for healthy makeup, I conversed with a friend that is a Beautycounter consultant. I tried a few products from her and fell in love. Not only with the products but the Beautycounter mission. Little by little, I transitioned my beauty products over and I’ve never looked back! The fact that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40 years ago it was 1 in 20 is hard to take in.

Science is increasingly pointing to environmental links to this disease and other diseases and disorders, I believe it is important to do what we can to prevent these diseases. I’m proud to represent Beautycounter and their mission to move the market and policy away from toxic chemical use and toward, cleaner, safer, greener chemicals. They created a list of 1,500 chemicals that will never be used in products because these chemicals are linked to cancer, hormone disruption, and other health issues. Better ingredient and more transparency in good for everyone.

Did you know that less than 20% of Americans know that their personal products contain potentially harmful ingredients and only 4% truly understands what that means?
Those percentages are not acceptable for me, and are part of the reason why I advocate on a daily basis for safer beauty and to help each of you educate yourselves. If you suffer from allergies, sensitive skin, have a child with eczema, know some with cancer… this brand is for you! Beautycounter is focused on making a social impact and that’s what I am most excited about when I get to talk to each of you.

Now, I hope I’ve inspired you to take your health into your own hands and find out exactly what toxins are lurking in your products. Visit the EWG website and type them in and see for yourself! As a mom of three, I do not have the time to lollygag around so having a quick makeup routine that masks the fact that I haven’t gotten a lot of sleep is key.

Here is a break down of my makeup routine:
-apply 2-3 drops of the Balancing face oil as a primer
-use Touch Up concealer pen in shade LIGHT (especially to cover up the under eye circles)
-apply the Tint Skin Foundation in Sand with the Retractable Foundation brush
-use Touch Up Concealer pen again under eyes and to brighten as a highlighter
-apply a pea sized amount of the Mattify Powder with the Powder brush
-fill in brows with the Color Define Brow Pencil in Medium
-use Bloom blush on the apples of cheeks with the Angled Blush Brush
-finish with the Lengthening Mascara and a bright lip sheer (I used Coral)

That’s it! It takes me less than ten minutes to do this and it lasts all day long. I love this makeup look and it feels so great to look put together even when I feel frazzled. Not only that but the ability to actually wear mascara after years of trying different brands and having my eyes constantly water. I love the Lengthing Mascara and swear by it! The formula is made to last a long time so make sure you use the Beautycounter Baby oil, Cleansing Balm or even regular ole coconut oil to remove it.

After that, I curl my hair with a curling wand, braid it or throw it into a bun and walk out the house. This isn’t something that I do every single day because who am I kidding, I don’t see people other than my family on a daily basis. Now that Tee Ball has started, I do venture out more and I am setting up playdates left and right for summer with my friends! So, I do get to actually put on makeup and real clothes every once and a while, haha. On the days that I am not wearing makeup, I focus more on my skincare.

Here is a break down of my skincare routine:
– wash my face morning and night with the Charcoal bar
-apply one pump the Radiance Firming Serum
-apply a pea sized amount of the Rejuvenating Eye Serum around my eyes
-mask once a week with the Balancing mask and another night with the Brightening mask

I would love to try out the BeautyCounter tint skin foundation but I’m not sure where to begin with shading. Do you have any suggestions for picking out a shade? And do you have a link so that I can buy directly from you? Thanks for your help!
