Hey ya’ll! I am so excited to share the next installment of my holistic medicine cabinet series! I hope that you take the time to watch my instastories (@littlesouthernwife) because at this point, you would know that I am all about keeping healthy, and having holistic medicine plays a big role in that. When I first transitioned to a holistic lifestyle, I was clueless at how to switch over to healthy alternatives, but over the past few years it’s become easier due to research and the help of holistic doctors. This is a topic that I get really passionate about because people assume when I say I live a non toxic lifestyle that we just suffer through things or I keep my kids from getting proper care from a health professional, but this is NOT the case. I have spent a lot of time and research finding the best ways to combat any issue under the sun and now, I am sharing my findings with you!
Here are the first 3 installments of my holistic medicine cabinet series if you’d like to reference them:
Holistic Medicine Cabinet Series – Part One
Holistic Medicine Cabinet Series – Part Two (Kid’s Edition)
Holistic Medicine Cabinet Series – Part Three
I know that navigating the world of vitamins and supplements can be confusing and I always suggest starting with your daily diet and focusing on as many fresh fruits and vegetables and less processed foods as possible. Outside of that, you can look into vitamin deficiencies and see if you are personally experiencing any of the side effects and then add in vitamins as needed. Recently, I’ve incorporated a few different supplements and vitamins and I’ll do my best to explain the reasoning for each below.
- Mary Ruth’s Liquid Probiotic – I have searched long and hard for a high quality probiotic for the kids to take. Most kids probiotics have a small amount of CFUs and different strains in them. I went with this brand for two reasons: it’s a liquid that has no taste so it’s not hard to get them to take it and because it has the highest amount of CFUs I could find. ALL of my children take this probiotic, even Vivi! Probiotics are super important for our gut health and immunity (you can read more about that here.) This probiotic also helps with digestive issues like Constipation, Diarrhea, Gas, Bloating, IBS and other gastrointestinal complaints.
- Pure Full Spectrum D3 + K2 – In the winter we are normally sicker because we lack the Vitamin D that we get from being outside. As a country, we are also all lacking in the Vitamin D area more than ever. By utilizing vegan vitamin D3 along with two essential forms of K2 (MK-4 + MK-7). Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, while vitamin K2 helps the body ensure that calcium is properly utilized (i.e., that it is ending up in the bones and not in the heart and blood vessels). Vitamin K2 keeps calcium in bones and teeth and out of soft tissues. We take this daily and with food so it’s absorbed into our bodies. When sick, we double up on taking this.
- Mary Ruth’s Vitamin C Gummies – I often switch up our vitamin C vitamins and I do it just to see what brands preform better, taste better, are kid friendly, etc. I started using Mary Ruth’s brand a few months ago and since doing so, I really love the quality of their products. These are non-GMO, Vegan, Gluten Free, Wheat Free, Yeast Free, Corn Free, Soy Free, Paleo Friendly and Celiac Friendly. NO Nightshades. No Gelatin. Our entire family (minus Vivi) takes these gummies once a day. They are so delicious you’ll want to take more BUT you have to stop yourself and know that one serving is all you need to take for your daily vitamin C intake. When you’re sick you can up that dose as needed. Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. It’s involved in many body functions, including formation of collagen, absorption of iron, the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.
- Mary Ruth’s Liquid Sleep Multimineral – The last new supplement that I’ve started incorporating into MY daily routine is this liquid multimineral. I’ve been very open about my struggles with anxiety and depression and after lots of research and a few doctor consultations, I found that this was a direct link to what nutrients my is lacking. Interesting fact is that I don’t love taking a lot of supplements… so I found this one! The been essential NIGHTLY Vitamins, Minerals, Antioxidants, Trace Minerals, Magnesium, Boron, & VEGAN D3 your body needs during sleep. When taken together, Magnesium & Boron assist in calming and relaxing the body to ensure a better/deeper sleep. Vitamin C & Vitamin D3 supports all the trace minerals to be absorbed more efficiently in the body. Vitamin D3, a fat soluble vitamin, assists in the absorption of Calcium. Calcium helps rebuild & maintain healthy bone & nerve tissues. This liquid tastes delicious and really does help me sleep better at night (well, as good as I can with an infant in my arms) and I suggest it for anyone needing help with the issues I listed above.
These four products have been great additions to our holistic medicine cabinet and daily intake. We love them for taste and quality reasons and I know that you will as well. Please, please share your thoughts if you choose to buy and try them for yourself! I would love to hear feedback.
