Ergo-dynamic Nursing Pillow

I received this product in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Read my disclaimer page for more information. Breastfeeding has been the most intense and amazing journey that I have ever been on! With each child, you would think it gets easier but each baby is so different! This is a subject that I get asked about constantly from my readers and followers. Although, I am not a lactation consultant, I can share my personal experience with breastfeeding three children and what has worked and not worked for us. Nolan breastfed like a champ, Harper took some time to get her latch right and Scarlet Reese is a toss up. She will nurse and then pull off for no reason then suckle again and the scream bloody murder a few minutes later. I can’t really nurse her in public for fear that someone is going to get an eye full… I normally nurse her in the Ergo Adapt while we are out. This also led me to research what her issue was and come to find out that I needed to “block feed” her.

I produce A LOT of milk after I have my babies which I learned can be hard for my babies. They nurse and get full on the foremilk (calory filled, sugary milk that comes out of your milk ducts first) before she reached the hindmilk (fatter and nutrient-rich milk that comes after the foremilk). A great way to explain what was causing her to go into a screaming fit is that just eating the foremilk is like her eating a big bag of m&m’s for dinner. It can make a baby’s stomach hurt and cause them to get gassy. She needed to also eat the hindmilk, which is like a big Sunday dinner. So “block feeding” came to the rescue in the sense that I nurse her fully on one breast instead of switching sides when she eats.

I read somewhere that breastfeeding is 90% determination and 10% milk production and I agree completely. The first few weeks are so intense and I feel like if you can get over that hump you are golden. Your baby is learning how to nurse just like you are learning how to read their cues and your body is learning how much milk to produce all the while. I have so many friends that have shared their experiences during their breastfeeding journey with me and it’s definitely not a “one size fits all” thing. Breastfeeding can be challenging, emotional, confusing and amazing all at the same time. Researching the ins and outs before you have your baby and educating yourself so you don’t walk into it blindly is the best thing that you can do to start your journey with your LO (little one).

Along with education before hand, I strongly suggest investing in a nursing pillow to help get comfortable when you’re nursing. The Ergo Natural Curve Nursing pillow has been a lifesaver during my breastfeeding journey with Scarlet Reese. It is so supportive and really helps both of us snuggle and relax when she nurses. She has fallen asleep nursing so many times during her 5 months Earthside and many of those times have been while she was snuggled next to me in this pillow. You can have your baby close and feel supported at the same time. Head over to the Ergo Baby website to read more about them.

For me breastfeeding my son was a really nice experience. Not because we hadn’t any trouble but because I was well prepared to do it – I knew what can happen and how to deal with problems. My sister told me about guide : “How to make breastfeeding pleasant and easy” by Susan Urban ( got it here: http://www.parental-love.com ) and it helped me so much! The author seems to know everything about breastfeeding. I know how it has helped me so I want to recommend it to other because it is really worth to read!

I am going to get this pillow 🙂 After reading Nancy’s comment I got “How to make breastfeeding pleasant and easy” guide and I love it! I compared it to a few books that I have about breastfeeding and this one is surely the best!
