Combating Seasonal Allergies Without Supplements

I am not a medical doctor. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I researched on my own time to find these suggestions. Please do your own research before trying. I do get affiliate earnings when you click on my links. These are at no cost to you and even save you money by using them.

Pollen, grass, mold, cedar, ragweed and even some chemicals we breathe in start to bother us in the form of seasonal allergies once they have entered our bodies. What happens with these airborne agents (known as pathogens or allergens), is that our immune system views them as a danger and releases antibodies that will attack them and cause a release of histamine into your eyes, nose and lungs. Histamine’s purpose is to attack harmful pathogens or allergens and remove them from the body. The biggest way we see this visually is through inflammation.

Here are natural ways that you can start focusing on that will make a positive impact in dealing with seasonal allergies:

  1. Chiropractic care – this helps your body regulate allergy fighting hormones. A chiropractor can help allergy sufferers find relief and lesson use of antihistamines
  2. Cleanse your nose – pollens stick to your mucus membranes and using something like a nettipot and/or nasal saline can help clean that out.
  3. Manage your stress – stress hormones really put a damper on your body overall and your immune system specifically, which can make seasonal allergies worse.
  4. Acupuncture – Acupuncture can help with underlying imbalances within the body. Finding the root problem in your body that is causing the body’s reaction to the allergens and forming a treatment plan can help relieve the acute symptoms of allergies.
  5. Herbal Remedies – There are herbs that act very similar to antihistamines like butterbur. These have the potential for relieving seasonal allergy symptoms. Quercetin is another huge help because it has been shown to block the release of histamines. It’s found in onions, apples and black tea.
  6. Apple Cider Vinegar – this is one of those “helps with all things” situations. You can use ACV for body treatments for a multitude of things. In this specific situation, it helps boost your immune system, break up mucus and support the lymphatic drainage.
  7. Detox your toxic load – allergies are often made worse by toxins in our bodies. Our liver is supposed to naturally detox our body but often is overloaded and cannot do its job because its trying to metabolize our stress, medications, alcohol, and processed foods. During this time, it can also cause allergies to flare. Eliminating fried foods, sugar, alcohol and other toxins in your diet and incorporating liver supportive foods like milk thistle, turmeric, artichoke, citrus fruits and nuts can make a great impact.
  8. Use essential oils – add essential oils to oil diffusers and massaging onto skin can help reduce your allergies systems. Oils like peppermint, basil, eucalyptus, and tea tree oils have been linked to fight inflammation and help boost your immune system.
  9. Clean your house – by keeping your home clean you can greatly remove allergy triggers which will help alleviate your symptoms. Change the air filters for your HVAC often, dust, vacuum carpets and rugs and change your sheets and pillowcases once a week.
  10. Use an air purifier – An air purifier to improve the air quality inside your home by dramatically reducing indoor air pollution and the pathogens in the air creating seasonal allergy reactions. Hi Amanda! As a regular part of my routine, I like to gargle with OnGuard as well as with salt water. I feel like this is a good way to cleanse the throat and help to curb allergies, since for me the throat was usually the first thing that would bother me when I would suffer from allergies and sinus infections.

I LOVE THIS! I’ve heard of my friends using oils like this but I never have. I am very interested in learning ore.
