Every year during this time, I get so excited about giving the kid’s their Easter baskets! Although, I think that this year will be the first that Nolan actually “gets it” and thinks that the Easter Bunny dropped off his basket full of goodies at our house. We give them a good amount of non candy items but the little bit of candy that they do get is always Yum Earth. We choose to do so because they don’t need a basket filled with toxic chemical candies and they enjoy the non candy items just as much! We don’t believe in going above and beyond for their gifts… it’s not Christmas or their birthday so they get things that wont break the bank and cause high expectations from the Easter bunny in the future. I’ve seen mom’s give their kids tablets, large amounts of money and even a bicycle on Easter! I think that’s a bit ridiculous and not even the reason for celebrating the holiday. I hope that you enjoy the selection we have come to include in their baskets and choose to add some of them to your children’s baskets!
bathing suits – these are always something that we include in their baskets and they get so excited when they realize that they get to start going to the beach and the pool as it gets warmer. I love these from Old Navy! (And they are on major sale right now so get them before they are gone!)
flop flops – I never seem to stock up on bigger sizes the previous year so they get new ones for Spring and Summer in their baskets. I like to find a dresser pair and then a pair they can wear outside to play or the pool and beach. These from Old Navy compliment their swimsuits and are on sale with the swimwear. You cannot beat that!
sunglasses – Our kids love wearing our sunnies so finding them a pair each was a must on my list this year. Nolan will wear them every chance he gets and Harper follows his lead. I found both of these from Old Navy along with their bathing suits and flop flops. So, my online shopping experience on their website took care of three items in their baskets this year.
sunscreen – this goes perfectly with the swimsuits and flip flops! The sun can be unbearably cruel on our skin and our littles need protection from the UV rays without all the chemicals associated with store bought brands. Beautycounter uses the best ingredients formulated together to cr
movies – Hit up the $5 bin at Walmart ya’ll! I found the cutest DVDs for the kids when we are driving in the car and they get bored. We have long trips to my prenatal appointments in Charleston and running errands to the beach so we are always on the look out for new movies for them to watch. Instead of investing $20 in the new movies that come out, we would rather buy a few older ones and get more for our money. I picked up Alvin and the Chipmunks, Veggie Tales and Rio when I was at the grocery store the other day shopping!
toys – This year, we added Oli and Carol natural baby toys made from latex. These are PERFECT for babies and toddlers because they are non toxic, chewable, easy to clean and promote imaginative play! The kids play with them in the bathtub, outside, in the car and on the beach to name a few places. They can be enjoyed anywhere and wiped off with ease when they are dirty. The kids love the rubber duckies and cars for the bath so we added a few to their Easter baskets this year.
chalk & bubbles – PERFECT for outdoor play when the weather is nice. We spend as much time as possible outdoors and coloring on our sidewalks and blowing bubbles is our favorite thing to do! The kids and I can spend long amounts of time making pictures, talking about shapes and colors when we play with sidewalk chalk. Adding bubbles in always makes them smile and they love running around in the bubbles and even blowing them for me to enjoy! They always have a large selection at Walmart and Target so it’s up to you which place you’d rather go to! We have a local Walmart where I buy our groceries so that’s where I picked theirs up this year.
books – Baby Lit has the best selection of books! I don’t mind splurging on this part of their basket because we love a good book! It gets so much use by each of our kids and once they are finished I plan on keeping a few of their favorites and donating the rest to our local battered women’s shelter for the young kids that take refuge there. The Baby Lit books quickly became our favorites because they tell classic stories and teach multiple things at the same time. The kids learn new words, shapes and colors with ease with these books and every time a new one is added to their collection, they are SO excited!
candy – If you haven’t heard of Yum Earth, you should know that they are the only candy that we promote for kids. We love that their mission is to provide healthy alternatives for kids to eat that are filled with vitamins and made with organic ingredients verses toxic chemicals. The kids each get their own Sour Beans, Organic lollipops, Fruit Snacks and Gummy Bears! This is their sweet treat and we are so thankful to find a brand that we love and trust for them.
