It has been a little over a week since we returned from California. The plane rides, food, and sight-seeing we enjoyed are fresh in my mind. Nolan keeps asking when our next plane ride is, and we have officially decided that we are going back for the Emmy’s gifting suite in August and to see more places than we did on our recent trip. We did see a lot of cool places in the time we were there. Each place felt extremely different than the one before it.
After we checked into the Omni hotel in downtown L.A., we unpacked and then went sight-seeing! We decided to go to Chinatown since they were celebrating their New Year.
When you enter Chinatown, you walk through this huge gate and everything instantly change; it really looks like you’re in the middle of China and so you feel like you’ve teleported across the planet. Because of the celebration of Chinese New Year, there were people everywhere and fireworks were going off all around us.
Surprisingly, the kids slept through the entire time we were there! I made sure to get them both little presents when we found this really cool market. Nolan got his favorite snaps fireworks, and Harper got the softest hot pink silk pajamas.
On the walk back to the hotel, we found this really cool cathedral. The outside of the compound is covered in different flowers.
Once you walk into the lower level you can see these really beautiful water features and the floor is covered in constellations!
As if that isn’t cool enough, when you walk up the stairs you see the actual building and this amazing view with etched glass filled with prayers.
There is also a place where you can pray to Mary surrounded by hundreds of candles.
It was gorgeous there! We really enjoyed just being there because it filled us all with peace.
The next morning we headed to Beverly Hills to meet my sister-in-law and her family to spend the day together.
After lunch, the ladies headed to the Dry Bar for blow outs and endless mimosas.
The place is really bright and glamorous! I loved being able to get pampered and read a magazine for the first time in ages.
After we got our fancy hairdos, we met the guys and went to Hollywood Boulevard where the Academy Awards were being held. There were tons of last minute preparations going on all around us, and we enjoyed being behind the scenes!
After we walked through the event, we ventured to the Walk of Fame. It was really cool to see people’s stars! I took pictures with a few of my favorite ones.
We were led to the Chinese Theatre and got to see famous star’s handprints and footprints.
Nolan really enjoyed Frank Sinatra while I enjoyed Meryl Streep; the history of that area just radiates a fun vibe!
When we went back to the hotel, I talked Derrek into taking a quick Target trip for supplies.
Our quick supply run turned into a Target, Zara, H&M, Victoria’s Secret and dinner at City Tavern trip!
All of those places are located in this three-story Centre where the kids enjoyed taking escalator rides and playing with the mannequins in the stores while we shopped a little.
This was Saturday, the morning of our gifting suite for the Academy Awards. Derrek and I began our day around 5 am and did not slow down at the event until it ended around 3pm. Sweet Tea Jewels was a big hit with the celebrities. It was a little overwhelming to be in the presence of such talented people, but we enjoyed every second of it. We met and talked to a lot of producers, managers, celebrities and investors and formed many new friendships throughout the day. We cannot wait to share the photos with y’all once we get them from our photographer. We are still in shock that we were a part of such an amazing experience and so thankful to have a business that was asked to be there.
After the event, I could not wait to get back to my babies and go exploring.
I saw them briefly at the event, and I needed a quick snuggle with them at the hotel before we left. We decided to hang out for a little bit and relax and talk about the day before heading to dinner at Chop Suey in Little Tokyo.
We soon got an Uber to Little Tokyo and strolled through a courtyard filled with restaurants and shops. We listened to some pretty entertaining karaoke before we ate sushi, and then we headed home to get in bed after a long day.
We spent our last day by the ocean in Santa Monica. It was around a 20 minute cab ride from the Omni hotel to Santa Monica.
We walked to 3rd and Promenade and were serenaded by people singing on the streets in this open shopping market.
There were men playing bongos, a man in a business suit playing the drums, and a lady singing opera along the streets of shops and restaurants. After we ate lunch we went into tons of different shops, including my new favorite store, Lush Cosmetics.
The display of soaps pulled me right in!
After getting our shopping fix, we walked by the ocean to the Santa Monica Pier and let the kids run around while we enjoyed the gorgeous view.
Nolan kept saying “wow guys!” AND really enjoyed playing arcade games.
We had so much fun on our trip. We saw so many different places and met so many new people. It was an amazing experience. I am so happy that our children traveled the United States and saw the West Coast. They had so much fun, and we had so much fun watching them, and being able to view that part of the world through their eyes as well. If you ever get the chance to travel, just do it. It is so good for your soul.
